Costruzione ed Ergonomia

Asus ZenWatch 3 è realizzato con una cassa in acciaio e alluminio, con quadrante rotondo. L’azienda taiwanese ha riposto particolare attenzione all’aspetto costruttivo, e lo smartwatch è davvero assemblato alla perfezione. Non ci sono sbavature, i pulsanti fisici sono perfettamente incastonati, e la sensazione al tatto è davvero premium.
Molto comodo da tenere al polso, grazie soprattutto ai 48 grammi di peso ed al cinturino in pelle ottimamente realizzato. Peccato che Asus non abbia optato per il classico aggancio a 22 mm, e quindi se si vorrà cambiare cinturino bisognerà necessariamente optare per una delle soluzioni proposte direttamente dall’azienda.

Display

ZenWatch 3 può contare su un display da 1.39 pollici (400 x 400, 287 ppi) realizzato con tecnologia AMOLED, davvero di eccellente qualità. Ottima la resa cromatica, ottima la visibilità sotto la luce diretta del sole (il sensore di luminosità lavora molto bene). Eccellenti i contrasti, un aspetto che consente di poter visualizzare correttamente tutte le informazioni restituiteci dallo smartwatch, praticamente in qualsiasi condizione. Inevitabilmente però, tutto questo si riflette nell’autonomia.

Autonomia

Asus integra una batteria da 341 mAh, con la quale abbiamo faticato a raggiungere la fine della giornata, soprattutto con display always-on. Disattivando questa modalità, siamo riusciti ad arrivare a sera. In questo caso, ci saremmo aspettati qualcosa di più, soprattutto vista la presenza della CPU Snapdragon 2.100, pensata da Qualcomm soprattutto per il risparmio energetico. Sia chiaro, ZenWatch 3 opportunamente settato vi consentirà di stare lontani dalla presa di corrente per tutto il giorno, ma è evidente come l’ottimo display incida sull’autonomia. Da sottolineare come la ricarica completa avvenga in appena 50 minuti.

Software

A bordo troviamo Android Wear, con pregi e difetti a cui ormai il sistema operativo di Google ci ha abituati (comandi vocali non perfetti, ad esempio). Asus ha comunque inserito un paio di personalizzazioni software davvero funzionali, come ad esempio quella legata alla misurazione del battito cardiaco, senza dimenticare l’utilizzo dei pulsanti fisici. Sarà ufficialmente aggiornato ad Android Wear 2.0 durante il Q2 2017 anche se, la mancanza del chip NFC, impedirà a questo ZenWatch 3 di poter usufruire di Android Pay.

Voto Finale

Luci ed ombre per questo ZenWatch 3. Non ci sono dubbi sul fatto che sia un eccellente prodotto, ben costruito ed assolutamente funzionale. Di contro alcune mancanze (NFC ed autonomia su tutte) rappresentano dei punti deboli su cui Asus poteva senza dubbio lavorare meglio. Considerando l’arrivo imminente di Android Wear 2.0 e l’ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo (è acquistabile a 250 euro), si tratta di uno smartwatch da prendere assolutamente in considerazione.
